Sherer Construction and Mitch Glaeser: A Partnership Transforming Gainesville

Scherer Construction’s impact on Gainesville’s development extends beyond traditional projects, with their enduring collaboration with Mitch Glaeser on the San Felasco Tech City project standing as a prime example. This partnership is a testament to Scherer’s commitment to not only infrastructure but also to long-term alliances that fuel economic growth and innovation in the region.

San Felasco Tech City: A Model for Innovation and Growth

Located on the edge of Gainesville, San Felasco Tech City is a visionary tech and business hub that houses over 60 companies across diverse industries. Scherer Construction’s role was initially secured through a bid, but their outstanding work quickly turned a contractual project into a dynamic, collaborative partnership. Since then, Scherer and Glaeser have bypassed formal bidding, instead focusing on strategic development that has transformed Tech City into a magnet for innovation and entrepreneurship in the Gainesville area.

Building a Legacy Through Collaborative Development

More than just a commercial real estate project, San Felasco Tech City serves as a sustainable, community-focused model for modern business development. The synergy between Scherer and Glaeser has made Tech City a landmark of progress, emphasizing environmental sustainability, employee wellness, and a vibrant corporate culture.

Scherer Construction and the Future of Gainesville Development

At the recent GACAR Commercial Meeting, attended by industry leaders like Shasta SchoellhornView of Coldwell Banker as Chair and Brent Line of KW Commercial as Vice Chair, Erik Otte of Scherer Construction presented several impactful projects that are reshaping Gainesville’s landscape. This monthly meeting is a valuable platform for sharing insights into ongoing developments, upcoming builds, and trends in the local and national real estate market.

Tower Hill Insurance Headquarters: A Landmark Development

One of the most anticipated projects is the Tower Hill Insurance Headquarters, set to become a centerpiece in Gainesville’s business district. Located on a private 18-hole golf course—one of only 15 new courses being built nationwide—this facility will add prestige to the region, enhancing Tower Hill’s brand presence while boosting Gainesville’s appeal. The state-of-the-art 65,000-square-foot, two-story building, designed by local architectural firm Paul Stresing Associates and developed by CHW as the civil engineer and Scherer Construction as the project contractor, will feature over 25,000 square feet of energy-efficient glass. Expected to open in spring 2025, the new headquarters will house 300 of Tower Hill’s 500-plus employees and reinforce the company’s commitment to Alachua County. Tower Hill, originally founded as a mobile home insurer in Miami by William T. Shively in 1972, has grown under the leadership of his son, Bill Shively, into a significant player in residential and commercial property insurance. Tower Hill CEO Kirk La noted at the groundbreaking ceremony that the company’s commitment to its home state is steadfast, even as the insurance industry faces challenges across Florida.

Gainesville Airport Parking Garage and Cultural Investments

Scherer Construction is also expanding its footprint in Gainesville with several other key projects. A four-story parking garage at the Gainesville Airport is expected to complete by Q3 2025, addressing the region’s growing need for enhanced travel infrastructure. Additionally, Scherer is enhancing Gainesville’s cultural scene by developing a new home for the Dance Alive National Ballet. By transforming a former Lutheran church property into a state-of-the-art facility for this longstanding institution, Scherer is enriching the city’s cultural landscape and supporting the arts.
